Dr. Palavicini was selected as an RL5 Scholar by San Antonio Peper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC). Mentored Research Career Development (San Antonio OAIC RL5) Scholars are trained in the operative mechanisms in the aging process, and in the design of pre-clinical and clinical interventions for diseases and conditions that affect older adults. The RL5 award mechanism is similar to the KL2/K12 award mechanism, but permits more flexibility in the percent effort required of the Scholar.
The title of Dr. Palavicini's project is "Effects of mTOR inhibition on central and peripheral ceramide metabolism in old marmosets and cognitively impaired human subjects".
